About Us:

Kansas City Multi-Rotor was formed in early 2017 with the goal of forming a FPV club that was guided by the rules and regulations that had begun to form around the hobby.  The founding officers were longtime AMA members who recognized the need for a set of standards, pilot/club insurance, and the ability to demonstrate safety and responsibility within our group and at our races.  This by-the-book approach has allowed us to develop good relationships with the surrounding municipalities and facilitated races at many different parks in the KC area.  It has also paved the way for us to secure a permanent, dedicated flying field for multi-rotor freestyle and racing at which members are welcome any day of the week.

Over the 2017 season, we quickly grew into a Tier 1 MultiGP chapter.  This would not have been possible without the passion of the local KC drone racing community. In 2018 we teamed up with MINDDRIVE and created a robotics course specializing in FPV drone technologies. This gave us a chance to bring the youth of KC out to events and get them involved in the excitement. 2019 marked the beginning of the Tiny Whoop division, and brought many new faces into the KCMR family.

With all of 2020s challenges, we still managed to safely host a season and gave KC’s pilots a change to still participate in the hobby we all are passionate about. This season saw the first ever Freestyle competition KCMR has ever held, and with that came the emergence of the KCFreestyle group and has extended the KCMR family exponentially!

This is a great group of people who bring their families out to races and encourage their kids to get involved.  We like to think we are setting a good example for the kids by educating them about the technology we are using and promoting good sportsmanship between pilots.  If someone is having a bad day, we do whatever it takes to keep them in the air, whether it be loaning spare parts, tools, or charging their batteries.

When it’s all said and done and the races are over, we relish the camaraderie that comes with building, flying, and crashing together.  Our club has brought people from all walks of life together; people that normally would never have crossed paths are instead forming lasting friendships that bring us together as often as the races do.  This spirit of community and passion for technology is what propels our club forward, and continues to give us the energy to do great things for the years to come.
